Read Across America Week

This week is Read Across America Week.  I wanted to have a little fun with my students and decorate our hall to get excited for this.  We are focusing on Oh The Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss.  I wanted to integrate other subject areas into celebrating this special week so I started with art by having the students create a hot air balloon on oak tag and then decorating them with tissue paper.  The students then wrote a personal narrative about their favorite place to go in language arts.  This week the students will be proofreading their narratives and and typing them.  Once they are finished they will be mounted on construction paper and will become the basket for the hot air balloon.  Their finished products will be hung in the hallway for conferences.  To get the students excited I decided to surprise them tomorrow morning with our doors being decorated to the them of the book.  I included a little sneak peak of the picture below.   We will continue to build off the start of the this them all week. This week should be a great time!  Happy reading everyone!

Getting Started

There is always room for reflection with both teaching and learning.  My fourth graders have been hard at work all year long and I don't feel like I have had a place to reflect on what we have been doing.  I decided to start blogging to reflect.  I feel as though this is a great place to share what we are working on in class.  More importantly, this can be a place to share the ups and downs of every learning in the classroom.  I am hoping that this will provide a place for parents to catch a glimpse into their student's day to day activities.  In sharing our day to day activities and experiences, I hope to reflect on our accomplishments and challenges.  With that being said....here we go!!
